Weekly Topic: Chevy or Ford? - brainhop
|
Overall would you purchase a chevy or ford if you had to choose, and why ? Why ask ? Cause I get bored :)
|
visitor
Get a clue brainhop! First decide what kind of vehicle you want. Car, truck, SUCV, hybrid, compact, 4 door, sports car or whatever. Check the consumer reviews and reports. Then keep playing the ford/chevy card till you get the best deal.
|
brainhop
Well personally I have a grand prix, but I was more asking the "die-hard" people to argue for their brand, Chevy or Ford, not a paricular vehicle. Some people will stay with one or the other no matter what any report says.

Hey brainhop, sorry about the get a clue remark! Fords rule! Chevys bounce! If you are a true ford fan you would love Texas. Ford trucks rule in texland. Fords generally have hard suspensions. Chevy/GMs generaly have soft suspensions. If you have back trouble, get a gm. Pontiacs have the sports suspension that separates them from the common gm machine. But not all pontiacs and not all gms can be called soft. I drive a dodge dually for hauling. Would not get another, unless it was a super bargain. Drive a Saturn cause it's merican, handles sharp, never lets me down and gets super milage for the performance. My next car choice is not available yet, so I am waiting.

Chevy trucks rock and they lead in sales over Fords trucks at least where i live. Any way Chevys rock. My nexxt auto is going to be a big Chevy truck with a lifter set on it and a window in the back so i can toss my beer cans into the bed of the truck. Ciao

Ford's rule over all the rest, better built, stronger, can withstand more abuse. Why do you think NASCAR puts FORD differentials in ALL of its cars, becuase FORD RULES!!! Chevy and GMC dont even compare. They are for the little boys affraid of big boy toys.

I drive a rather nifty looking Ford Explorer Sport (2 door) with a giant ass grill, 4 ton winch, 2 ton hitch winch, 4 inch suspension lift, TrXus tires, Euro-style roof rack, and all the lighting you can imagine. (You might laugh but that's actually pretty much a requirement for a good part of the year where I live.)
The story behind it goes like this... (Yeah, I've pulled a few Blazers and a 17 passenger van out of the snowbanks already this year so you Chevy folks just step aside.)
I allowed someone to drive my truck. They totaled it. However, had it not been that tough then I'd have likely been seriously injured. (I did actually spill beer which was injury enough.) The Explorer Sport was a difficult to replace vehicle - they didn't make a lot of two door models and very few came with the full package - so it took a long time but I've replaced it with the same exact vehicle for the most part.
It's only got a bit over 300 HP and a 4.0L but it's one tough S.O.B. actually. In 4 wheel low she'll rip your head off as she growls up the side of the mountain.
However, to the last visitor... You're either not understanding or just being biased. Both are okay by me. GMC parts would never be put into a race vehicle other than perhaps a racing truck. GMC makes nothing other than professional vehicles - trucks, vans, bigger trucks, and bigger vans, etc... If you take a look at their next commercial on television you'll see, "We are professional grade." They're very high quality work vehicles with a reputation for quality and longevity but to compare that with any other vehicle is akin to comparing apples and oranges.
So, given the two choices, I'd have to say Ford... Anyone else is just plain wrong. They might be wrong because they're just not educated, they might be wrong because they're abstinent, they might be wrong because of all sorts of reasons but, they're still just wrong. *grins*

I am a 14 year old kid and I even have common since for all those 40 year old chevy guys have u gotton any smarter over the years? Every one knows Fords are built better and stronger just look at the diffrent frames that should be enough of a clue for anyone to know that FORDS RULE!!!!!
chevys are okay but they aren't as strong and any real man needs a strong truck not a sissy truck that has a convertable roof(SSR) they are sport trucks its for those weak people that want to have a truck but dont know how to use a real truck.

As a partner of an automotive repair shop, I have worked on both Ford and Chevy cars and trucks. I have also owned both Ford and Chevy cars and trucks. It's from my on personal experiece that I can conclude that Chevy vehicles are over all better. Chevys have more power when you need it. Although all vehicles can be dependable when properly taken care of, you don't find too many Fords with over 200,000 miles on them. Chevys have better handling and a more comfortable ride. Fords may have a cheaper buying price, but they are also made cheaper. We have had more Fords then Chevys come through our garage. And parts, Ford parts are more expensive than Chevy parts. So in the long run, Fords end up costing more. Either way, if you're looking for better miles per gallon, buy a motorcycle!

I was looking for a truck this weekend and i went to a ford dealer 1st i saw many f-150's that i liked by the way i was looking for a crew cab as the family truck. So then i went to the chevy dealer to compare the trucks i was either going to take a f-150 crew cab or silveradocrew cab both 2006, so i lookedat the trucks and what was i thinking going to ford!!! The chevy silverado is better it was better interior and is way wider than the f-150 that means more space, and who doesn't want a big truck, ford was weak simple seats the silverado has more design on the seats.Chevy is better then ford in trucks so far.
|
visitor
chevy runs way smoother than ford and chevy has way better engines. the old ford f-150's (1997-2002) looks like that got hammered on the sides they are sucked in chevy doesn't have that stupid looking bump on it's trucks.there is no doubt CHEVY IS WAY BETTER THAN ford IN ANYTHING!!!!!!!
|
visitor
Your right ford is cheaper in price than chevy but ford is cheaper in price so that you can have some money left to buy parts when it breaks down the next week.

chevy trucks are without question the strongest, most standard hp and built 125x's better then ford. I own both of them, a ford f250 and a chevy silverado hd 2500, chevys 6.0 liter is by far the most powerful standard engine out of the big 3. And the 06 with the duramax diesel and alison transmission, is the most powerful truck out on the market. 650 ft pds of torque baby! Fords new trucks suck so bad, spark plugs pop out of their 5.4 and v10's, head gaskets are blowing on their diesels, they build them like crap these days. Chevy on the other hand is built like a rock, and there is plenty of room to work under the hood if maintenace is needed, as opposed to fords, it takes hours to take out simple spark plugs, that is unless they brake off, then you got to tap them out and drill them too. I will always buy chevy trucks from this day forth. But I am half and half. I own a chevy blazer, silverado hd, Ford mustang gt, and a Ford f250. But chevy is built the best. The trucks come standard with locking rear differentials, 4:10 gears, ect, that is all an upgrade option on a ford.
|
visitor
Chevy has the most standard hp out of all of the big 3. Not to mention the pick up on a chevy truck throws you into your seat as you pass everything on the road. Screw Ford trucks, they are now worthless to me.

I'm a 16 year old girl who knows better than to to buy a Ford. Ford's policy for a long time has been to build them cheap, sell them cheap, and sell a lot of them. Chevy builds with quality. So when you buy a Chevy you don't have to fix it the day after you buy it. Ford's computer systems are very slow and outdated. GM's computer systems work at a very high speed so that they can control engine, transmission, ABS, etc., systems very fast. Hey all you Ford lovers, get this: Henry Ford was famous for the assembly line, NOT for building a better product. My conclusion...Chevy trucks are built to last and Ford trucks are built to sell...to cheapa$$es.

Go 16 year old girl is right!
I could have saved 4K by buying an Ford F-150 that was a lot more equiped. After lookin into the design and engineering on the Ford, I was not impressed and I opted for the GM Z71.
The first thing I noticed on the Ford was the aluminum lower control arms... ON A TRUCK! Next I opened the hood which was aluminum and supported by gas shocks. I noticed things like rubber flaps around the radiator support (so they can rot and fall off in a few years) where GM would use a molded piece of plastic to cover this area.
I just noticed a lot of "cheapness" in certain areas of the vehicle. I didn't like that. The fit and finish just wasn't the same as GM... That explains a truck that is 4K less.
As for technology mixed with simplistic design, GM has got it together! GM has been doing things like drive by wire throttle for years. They have been controlling engines and transmissions electronically for years. Ford and Dodge are newer at this concept. For example, distributor-less ignition was with GM way before Ford and Chrysler probably even thought of it. All of these things lead to improved performance, better fuel economy, and better reliability (more electronics = less mechanical wearout)
Electronic control is the way it is going to be in the future. From an engineering standpoint, it is an optimal way to build a control system and is used in many other industries. And the best part is, software control. For example, my boss didn't like the brightness of the high beam indicator on his silverado. He took it to GM and they did a software upgrade to the BCM and dimmed the indicator! Amazing! Ask Ford or Dodge to do that... They can't!
Another thing I aplaud GM for is "updating" current designs. For example, the small block 350 is one of the best engines ever built. GM does it right when they base there next generation of small blocks on the previous generation.
I am an Engineer at a Helicopter company and this is the exact mindset that we use; base your design on existing design and REFINE it. Not "start from a clean slate and waste all of the lessons learned from previous mistakes." This is you you truly get a better engineered product.

Hawkhell-
Chevy vs Ford. Thats funny all around, I mean Ford seems to mainly go after being cheaper. Look at the Mustang up to now none of the base model Mustangs even had 300hp, and they have to supercharger the engine to even hope to keep up with a GM sports car, while GM stays naturaly aspirated.
Chevy is the best of the best, if you want cheap go ford, I drive a 700HP 91 corvette.
|
visitor
ford all the way. Chevy blows. I have owned a chevy and had to weld the frame on the truck, that is not counting the numerous other expenses. I have nothing against dodge, but i am just a ford guy
|
visitor
for the person that said that electronics is a good thing, yes it is the way to the future but on a truck, it is just one more thing to break. At least if it is mechanical you can replace worn out part, with electrical you normally have to buy the whole assembly to replace something simple as a power window motor

what in the hells is this chevy built like a rock crap, sure it might look like a rook but it is surley not as tough as one, i have had enough with the stuped acronyms or however you spell it. yes ford has a lot of them only because the chevy guys have too much time on there hands while there trucks ae getting fixed. also yes any truck will not last if you do not perform general repairs, simple rule of life. Oh i also wondered what you thought of this,
ford is the only truck that fedex uses, Ford could not buy ferrari so they had to beat them bad, any saleen mustang will blow the pants off any viper or corvette

Honda got the best truck out on the market.

1. The Honda ridge line is a piece of sh*t. with it's independent axles and puny v6 it has the same towing and payload of a Honda accord. Don't ever say that again.
2. I am from new england, where cars weather very fast. 9 out of 10 old trucks that have lasted on the road are Fords.
3.It's common sense. They are the best selling for a reason. They offer the most styling, the most engines options, and the second best 4x4 system on the market (second to toyota TRD).
4. Whoever said Chevy's are stronger is wrong. Ford TurboDiesel has the most HP and Torque of any other mid or light duty truck made.
5. I made the Dodge mistake a few years ago. 3 fuel pumps and 2 trannies 4 years. they are cheap piles of sh*ty plastic with HEMIs in them. The HEMI is held in by a two bolt main (ford uses 4) and will rip itself apart in 5 years of driving.
6. Chevy's are ok but are weaker, less reliable, and less practical. My silverado was ok, but too much of an old man truck. Spongy suspension, not much power. and bulky, didnt handle well at all, was garbage off road or when doing actual work. GMC is the better GM choice for trucks, but still not great.
7. The Chevy Colorado comes with a 5 cylinder engine made by Saab, which is one of the most retarded things ever done by the idiots in GM.
8. Look at the franchise, GM has Hummer, Pontiac, Saturn, Geo, Olds, Buick, a very longlist of garbage brands. Cadilac is the only nice thing they do.
9. Mazda, Aston Marton, Lincoln, Volvo, Jaguar, and Land Rover.... HMM. seems like a no brainer. My father has an f-150 with almost 300,000 miles on it, with only breaks, tires, and trivial things for repairs. I just replaced my 96 Ranger (289,000 miles) which was amazing to me with a 2005 FX-4 ranger which rides like a dream. I take it in the mud holes, down mountain trails, on the beach and it does fine. It has plenty of power, 6 speakers, great handling and comfort and is put together really strong. Hauls my boat, and my ladders and tools for building and painting. Look around people on the road, what truck do you pass more then any, new or old. The answer is Ford. They have been making trucks a lot longer then anyone else and can do it better then anyone else. I was not biased until have driven all 3 and had best luck with Fords. Thanks for listening. Never driven a toyota, they are supposed to be good. seem really flashy and not work trucks though.
I strongly suggest going with America's first, and best truck. best selling compact and Full size for decades now.
JUST DON'T BUY A DODGE!!!!

Corvettes are Ugly Fiberglass wedges with V8s in them. I'll put a Ford GT before you Junky 91 Corvette any day... Mustang is the poor man muscle car and brings in more money then corvettes every year. they are not even in the same class. corvette is more then double the price. 300 HP for less then 30 grand... not bad. If you want real engineering, and quality parts and engineering which may be a new concept to you corvette bums. Look at a Ford GT. Make's a Corvette look like it's little brother, the cavalier!

work at a parts counter and almost HALF of the parts you sell will be for GM vehicles...it's why I will never drive a vehicle built by General Motors. Chevy trucks keep us in business...the LEAST amount of parts we sell as far as trucks are concerned are for the Superduty Fords. He does have a point...Ford= Aston Martin (250,000$$), Jaguar, Land Rover, etc. GM= the cheapest brands on the market like Saturn...just absolute junk in my honest opinion.

Chevy's are soo much better then fords they suck. Do you know what Ford means Found On Road Dead yea that's right you guys suck. CHEVYS RULE ALL, they worked for me better than ford, or dodge! My Chevy Can pull the 6 horse trailer w/ ALL my horses and supplies w/ NO PROBLEM. to my chevy its a piece of CAKE. My horses arnt small, 3 of them are mustangs, 3 of them are quarter horses, 1000lb + a piece, see a dodge do that!

all i can say is look at the transmissions fords use plastic parts in thier AODs and i have been told by a transmission specialist that ford transmissions are really really fussy and they are nothing but a hunk of junk.
now look at chevys transmissions they use all steele parts (no plastic) which means that chevys transmissions are more reliable and can tow more.
now im ganna let all you ford guys think for a minute because to me it looks like chevys are better then ford in every way.
how often do you see a 1930 something ford 3 window coupe with a chevy drive line i wonder why because chevys are easier to work on and are way cheaper.
oh yeah and all of you powerstroke fans good luck trying to pull your heads off of your brand new f-250 guess what you have to do before you remove the head thats right you HAVE to remove the entire cab of the truck oh well shoulda went for the duramax.
the powerstroke heads need a cherry picker to pick them up because they are so heavy and the duramax heads are extremely light you can hold both heads with one arm with no problem and oh yeah the duramax has 4 valves per cylender were as the powerstroke has only 2 now anyone who knows anything about horse power and torque know that 4 valves are ALWAYS better then 2 no matter what.
i got to admit that the ford 9 inch rear end is a good rear end.
but the rest of the ford stuff is junk.
real men drive chevys. those who drive fords just never drove a "good" chevy.

And you know how they say on tv that fords are better because they have bigger bolts, well their not, they have to have bigger bolts to hold their ***** on because it seems to keep falling off.
and you know why fords are cheaper because they felt bad because they built their ***** out of ***** and they wanted you to have enough money to spend the rest of your life time trying to fix your *****.

Now let’s talk about your product, the King Ranch 2007 F-150. I think you guy’s have done a wonderful job of “Branding” the King Ranch. When I was test driving the King Ranch, I got the impression that it came with all the options available. I feel special when people see the King Ranch emblem. I love the “exclusive” King Ranch leather. I like the King Ranch name below the speedometer. I was even influenced by the Toby Keith commercials (dumb reason to spend 35K but you ought to know that it’s working). I’ve driven a Chevy for the past 10 years and forgot how good a Ford turns. I like the gear shift being on the floor instead of the column. I think the exterior is better looking than the 07 Chevy. In fact, the reason I didn’t give Chevy a 2nd look this time is because I couldn’t get over the extreme wheel well gap between the rear tire and bed. I also hate the look of the On Star receiver on their cab. I should have realized “I can’t see the rear wheel well from the driver’s seats.
Price wasn’t the issue when I made my purchase. I wanted the best deal I could get on whatever I bought, but the difference of $30K to $40K really didn’t factor into the decision. I was up against the year end and had to make a purchase pretty quick and really didn’t compare products like I should have.
Listen up Ford and realize this is valuable imput from a recent customer. Let me tell you the differences I’ve noticed after just 1500 miles.
• I don’t know if you were trying to cut cost, but I actually took my truck in for warranty work at 500 miles. What for you ask? To get some new wiper blades that didn’t leave streaks. It rained in Houston almost everyday in January and I had a brand new $35,000 King Ranch that seemed “cheap” because you put on defective or cheap wiper blades. I don’t know how much it adds to the bottom line, but it isn’t worth the impression it left on me.
• I can’t believe how poorly designed the gas cap is. Would it cost that much per truck to put a bigger hook on the cover to keep the cap from resting on the body? Is cheap plastic even safe?
• You really need to design the center console to open to the side instead of front to back. Make the driver’s comfort the main goal when you design things. It is a real pain in the butt getting things out while you’re driving. Also, why doesn’t it have a lock?
• Your tilt steering mechanism is a joke. Even my 2000 Chevy had a more user friendly tilt wheel. I hope this is a patent issue and not a cost saving issue.
• Have you noticed that in a Chevy, the heated seats have separate controls for the seat and the lumbar! What a great idea and they aren’t on a 10 minute timer.
• Oh yea, the Chevy lumber support is adjusted with a electric button instead of a manual spinner. Also, your lumbar support doesn’t come as far out as theirs does. I had to drive my wife’s loaded 2006 Chevy 2500 while mine was stalled out due to the alarm issue. That was when I noticed how inferior your lumbar setup is. I thought the King Ranch is top of the line fully loaded. Is there an option to get electric lumbar supports? Are they fully loaded? Is it the best you’ve got?
• Your A/C vent controls are limited to 4 setting for the air flow. On the Chevy you turn a knob that can give you varying degrees of air flow between the main vents and the floor. And, they have separate climate controls for the driver and the passenger side.
• I like the compass and outside temperature display in the rear view mirror on the Chevy better than your design in the dash information center. It probably cost more but it is easier for the driver and the passengers to see.
• I would install bed rails but you have made changes to the bed that makes the installation of traditional rails impossible. When I looked under the plastic strips on the side of the bed I see a bunch of holes instead of solid metal? Do you sell rails that will work with this set-up? My dog is pretty upset that he can’t go for a ride since I can’t tie him to the rail.
• I still haven’t figured out the usefulness of the “tray” in the center of the dashboard. Surely you don’t want me to store things there that would become projectiles in the event of a wreck?
• Do I have to mention that the gas MPG of the widow stick is about 15% more than the actual MPG?
• There needs to be more “cubby holes” at arms reach for the driver. I know that the gear shift has taken up room but you pay your designers good money to over come obstacles. I know there is an overhead track storage available but since I have a sunroof that option is shot. I would put an appropriate size holder on the driver side of the center console close to the dash that would accommodate my I pod or maybe sunglasses. Remember, your center storage compartment has a poor design already and is difficult to get things out of.
• I like the way the rear seats fold up to give real interior cargo space but I’m afraid I’ll bust up the frame work that is left exposed. Pulling out a suit case I ripped it a little bit but the frame work held up! You might want to engineer that into a smoother less obstructive surface.
• Finally, lets talk about the factory kill switch; StartLoc Anti-Theft System. As I have found out first hand, it disables a vehicle. My problem is the transmitter. I wasn’t told how to put it into valet mode just handed the directions and told to push the large button to allow the vehicle to start. I asked if I was supposed to put the transmitter on my key ring and the answer was that or put it in one of the cup holders! Actually, that is about as practical suggestion as you could have. An extra transmitter on the key ring won’t work for a man. It may be ok for the ladies with a purse but not a man’s pocket. I guess it defeats the purpose if you put it in a cup holder. The center console is out for previously stated reasons. The glove box is too far to reach every time you want to start the truck. The only other option is to leave it valet mode the majority of the time which defeats the purpose! How have other customers dealt with the issue? I’m going to put it in valet and utilize the after market kill switch I had installed which only lets the truck start when the door lock switch is pushed down.
I know that you may get a good laugh out of this letter or you may get your act together! Since I bought the truck I’ve spent over $1500 for custom pin stripes, a spray in bed liner, chrome running boards, a kill switch, custom painted bug deflectors, sunroof and window caps, chrome inserts for the door handles and tailgate handle, and chrome inserts for the front grill. This is one good looking truck outside and inside. Functionally, it leaves a lot to be desired. I’ll get use to the truck and it will be gone in 3-4 years, but if you offered me back my $8,000 down payment and any notes we’ve paid so far I’d give you the keys back and start over with a Chevy.
